How to "Have Your Wine and Drink it Too" in the New Year
Welcome to the first article in the “Attitude Matters Series” about Food, Health, Wellness and Entertainment – How you can “Have Your Wine and Drink it Too” in today’s fast paced society.
We all want to enjoy fine food, wine, music and art AND be beautiful and well inside and out. Each of us will define these things differently, but for all of us it’s our Attitude that matters in having what we desire.
What is your Attitude – or Mood – or Mindset for 2016? I encourage you to choose a word or phrase to define and set the tone for the year. Think about the people, places and things that matter to you and what you want to make happen in your business, personal life, finances, and health. Consider your “Bucket List” – do you have one? Did you cross anything off in 2015? Perhaps you don’t have a Bucket List (or whatever you want to call it) – that is a great place to start – Write One!
Throughout this series of articles I want you to get to know me better so I’d like to share what my 2015 Word was --- MORE. That may seem a bit pompous, trust me, it isn’t.
Last December I was out for a run and one of my favorite ‘pick up the pace’ songs was on my playlist – More, by Usher. I played it 3 times in a row, punching the air as I ran, smiling and feeling so energized (I’m sure I looked ridiculous but didn’t care) I couldn’t wait for the new year! The beat and the attitude in that song made me Happy and Inspired to DO MORE for my clients, my friends and colleagues. 2015 was My Year of MORE – I made more connections, took more time to build relationships, talked to my family more, did more with my business, meditated more, said “no” to busy-work proposals more, listened to more podcasts and audio books, and took charge of my mornings more often.
I used the song as my intro at the Lighten Up conference where I was the Keynote Speaker, and I asked the audience, what do you want MORE of? I’ll pose the same question to you –
In 2016 --
What do you want MORE of?
Friendships, Relationships, Vacations, Energy, Money, Sex?
We all want something more. And that’s OK. In fact I prefer that you think of MORE because it creates a positive and abundant attitude, rather than focusing on negative thoughts and feelings.
There are 5 things that most of us want –
1. We want to look better.
2. We want to feel better
3. We want to make more money.
4. We want to improve our relationships.
5. We want to improve our performance.
This series about Food, Health, Wellness and Entertainment can impact all five of those areas and I’ll discuss each of them in more detail in future articles.
Today, think about your health…
If you want to look and feel better what you put in your body has a huge impact.
If you want to make more money and you are not feeling good because you’re not nourishing yourself well it makes it harder to focus and make clear decisions. Your immune system can become compromised so you get sick more often, then you’re missing work - it can definitely impact your ability to earn money if you aren’t healthy.
I’m sure some of you have been in or seen a relationship that isn’t as going well because one of the partners or friends never really feels good and create a lot of excuses for why they don’t want to go for a walk together or attend social events.
Another way poor health affects relationships is the impact on a couple’s sex life. If one person consistently over eats, then they don’t feel good or desirable and don’t want to “make it happen” which can put a strain on the relationship.
Improving performance can be physical, mental or related to acquiring a new skill. For example; Running a marathon, Hiking Machu Picchu, Holding a plank for 2 minutes (egad, not on my list!), Playing with your kids without getting winded, Improving your vocabulary, Learning to play the guitar, or Speaking a new language.
Your success in improving performance exponentially increases when you are healthier.
