Hurdles, Challenges And Thoughts Regarding The National Ruling

The national marriage law went into effect before the couple was engaged. It did make the whole process easier for them. They never felt discriminated against.

Tell Us About The Proposal

The proposal was as romantic as can be, complete with an apartment adorned with candles and the perfect ambiance that can only be found in Enrique Iglesias' song Hero playing in the background. When Jorge arrived at home he found a note attached to a string that lead to Dan on one knee. The couple enjoyed their 2 year engagement as they made preparations for their dream destination wedding!

About the Day

The two were married at the Secrets Maroma Resort just south of Cancun, Mexico. It was just before sundown on the beach with 64 of their closest flying in from around the world - some as far as Germany, Ecuador and Australia. ?

Traditions and Sentiments

Dan & Jorge followed most wedding traditions. However they had mixed wedding parties of guys and girls.Dan danced with his mother to Berry Manilow's song You Are My Child. She was terminally ill and barely able to make the wedding. She passed soon after. Having her at the wedding and a part of that moment was beyond special. The two maids of honor switched the rings by accident. The mixup was actually really funny and everybody had a good laugh.

The Planning Process & wedding Vendors

Secrets Maroma has experience with gay weddings and the entire resort and staff were very gay friendly. Going with an all-inclusive resort was one of the best decisions Dan & Jorge made. Everything was taken care of.

Tell us about your honeymoon

After the five day resort wedding celebration, the newly-weds rented a car and drove around Mexico for a week. They stayed at a new hotel every two nights and explored different parts of the country. They checked out an eco-park and walked along the bottom of the ocean then swam with dolphins. They went cave exploring and swimming in the cenotes of the jungle. They also climbed the Mayan ruins and relaxed on the beach.
